Sumida Contemporary is a new platform and a curated label for contemporary products, developed by selected local manufacturers in collaboration with Japanese and international designers. The project brings together the tradition and skills of the craftsmen with the innovation and creativity of the designers to develop a new generation of daily items, made in Tokyo – for Japan and the world.

I wanted to preserve the tool character when designing this shoe and clothes brush. I focused on the optimisation of the handling through close observation. The shoe brush features an exceptionally long handle that allows to brush the shoes standing upright, while wearing the shoes. Often we take the shoes off carelessly in the evening and only when we wear them in the morning and are in a hurry, we notice that they are dusty.  This is when this brush comes in handy. It also features a hook to hang in on the wall in the entrance, so it is always close at hand.
